How big is a Pokemon master set? It depends on the set, by a long way. We counted every English set from Evolving Skies to 30th Celebration, 30 sets in all, and ranked them in one table, biggest first, so you can see what you are signing up for before you start.

Sets are English only and run from Evolving Skies to 30th Celebration. A set appears once its full card list is out, so sets that have not released yet are left off.
The short answer
- The biggest master set is Fusion Strike, at 501 cards.
- The smallest is Shrouded Fable, at 154 cards.
- 13 of the 30 sets need more than 360 slots, the size of a 9 pocket binder with one card per pocket.
- A master set is every numbered card plus every reverse holo. That is why it is never just the number printed on the card.
- 30th Celebration is the odd one out: every card is foil, so it has no reverse holos and its master set is the 199 cards.

Main set is the number printed on the cards. Numbered cards adds the secret rares above it. Reverse holos is how many of those cards also come in a reverse holo finish. Master set is the total a collector needs to own.

What counts as a master set
The rule behind every number above.
A master set is one copy of every numbered card in a set, including the secret rares, plus every reverse holo version. In the recent Mega Evolution sets, for example, the reverse holos are the Commons, Uncommons and Rares; the ex cards and secret rares do not get one.
Some collectors go further and chase pattern reverse holos too, such as the Poke Ball and Master Ball versions in Prismatic Evolutions. Those are not counted in the table, so add them if they are part of your plan.

Which master sets fit in one binder?
The quick check before you buy a binder.
A 20 page 9 pocket binder holds 360 sleeved cards, one per pocket. 17 of the 30 sets fit inside that. The other 13 need more room: either a 12 pocket binder, which holds 480, or two binders.
If you plan to put each reverse holo straight after its regular card, size up anyway. It is much easier to leave space than to move a whole set later.
How to use these numbers
Turn a number into a plan.
Pick your set from the table and note the master set size. That tells you how many slots you need and roughly how long the hunt will be.
Then get the list. Grab the free checklist or the printed master set checklist for your set, so you can tick off what you own. Placeholders hold every empty slot open, so the binder looks complete in shape from day one.
