Gem Pack Vol 6 — China's Apple Pokemon Set | Portal TCG

Portal TCG · Set Reveal

China's Gem Pack series hits its sixth volume on 7 August, and Vol 6 (CBB6C) is an apple orchard from top to bottom — headlined by Applin and its whole evolution family. Like every Gem Pack, each booster holds four holo cards. But the structure underneath this one is the story.

There are 28 Pokemon in the set, and each of them arrives as seven different cards: six holo variations numbered 01 to 06, plus a full-art Illustration Rare at 07. Twenty-eight Pokemon, seven versions each — that's 196 cards to chase a full master set. Seven Pokemon have been revealed so far, including a brand-new Applin that looks to be exclusive to China. Here's the first look.

Portal takeThe whole reason this set exists. Applin's apple is the theme running through all 196 cards, and here's its base card — the little apple worm in a blossoming orchard, illustrated by Tetsu Kayama, printed in six holo patterns of its own. A 40 HP Basic is never a battle card, but it's the mascot the set is built around. And Vol 6 brings a new China-exclusive Applin on top of this one: the other six reveals already exist in English and Japanese, but that new Applin looks China-only.

Portal takeThe sour half of the Applin split — Flapple grows from an apple gone tart, and its first attack scales at 20 damage per counter already on the target. It's a Dragon, so it has no Weakness at all, which is quietly one of the best defensive traits a card can carry. The jungle-canopy art is a lovely thing too.

Portal takeFlapple's sweet counterpart — the sugar-apple pie dragon, and the chunkiest of the family at 90 HP. Reckless Charge hits a heavy 130 (with 20 back to itself), and like Flapple it's a Dragon with no Weakness. The trade-off is a three-Energy retreat, so once Appletun is in, it's committed. The market-stall art is pure autumn.

Portal takeOur pick for the best-looking card in the reveal — a candy-apple stall at a night festival, all lanterns and toffee apples. Its Ability, which we're reading as Festival Dance, lets it fire its attack twice in a row under the right conditions, and Friend Ring scales with your own Bench. A grass-type sleeper wrapped in a gorgeous illustration.

Portal takeThe odd one out of the reveal — not an apple Pokemon at all, but the highest-HP card of the seven at 110, and a stunner under the cherry blossom. Its Ability (our read: Manic Focus) shuffles damage counters around your own board, and it carries the only Resistance in the group. A proper toolbox card if it ever sees an English print.

Portal takeA lovely oddity — the Sunny Form of Castform as a Fire-type, floating over a whole landscape of weather. Scorch leaves the opponent Burned; Sunlight Support moves your Energy off it onto a Benched Pokemon as it goes. Weather-form Castform cards are a collector favourite, and this one's a proper full-art.

Portal takeThe matcha-tea ghost, and the most charming art in the set for our money — a kid meeting the little tea-spirit on a sunlit floor. At 30 HP it's fragile, but its Ability (our read: Hide) keeps it safe from all attack damage and effects while it's on your Bench. A card you buy entirely for the illustration, and no worse for it.

That's where the six holo variations come in. Every one of the 28 Pokemon — not just the rare ones — is printed in six different holo patterns before you even get to its Illustration Rare. Here's the base Applin across all six, so you can see the range: standard holo, reverse, and the parallel foils climbing up to the master-ball and Gem Pack stamps.

Applin shown in all six holo variations from Gem Pack Vol 6

Multiply that by 28 Pokemon and add the 28 Illustration Rares on top, and you land at 196 cards for the full master set — the kind of chase these Gem Packs are built for. 21 Pokemon are still unrevealed, and the new China-exclusive Applin is the one to watch: the other six revealed so far already exist in English and Japanese, but that Applin looks China-only.

Gem Pack Vol 6 isn't on the store yet — but if the apple set has you wanting to rip a Chinese pack today, Vol 5 is in stock now.

Card details read directly from the Simplified Chinese Gem Pack Vol 6 (CBB6C) reveal images, 17 July 2026. English attack and Ability names here are our own translations of the Chinese and are provisional — these cards have no official English printing, and any localisation will reword them.
